Nobody said a word.<\/p>\n

One by one, people began putting money on the table.<\/p>\n

Five dollars.<\/p>\n

Ten dollars.<\/p>\n

Twenty dollars.<\/p>\n

Even the police officer who had arrested the boy placed money beside the judge\u2019s contribution.<\/p>\n

The boy couldn\u2019t stop crying.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know people would care,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n

The judge looked at him.<\/p>\n
