“What do you want?”
She spoke through the intercom.
“Gloria, please. Trevor doesn’t know I’m here.”
I remained inside.
“Then talk.”
She began crying.
“Malcolm lied to us.”
I looked at the camera.
“About what?”
“Everything.”
Her voice trembled.
“He said he had proof you were misusing the company.”
I waited.
“He told Trevor that Henry wanted him to inherit Cedarline.”
“I know.”
Kristen swallowed.
“But that wasn’t why Malcolm needed the properties.”
My heartbeat quickened.
“Then why?”
She looked over her shoulder.
“Because someone offered him forty million dollars for the East Harbor land.”
I stopped breathing.
“Who?”
“An investment group.”
I frowned.
“What investment group?”
She shook her head.
“He wouldn’t tell us.”
I stared at her.
“And the six million?”
Kristen began sobbing.
“That was supposed to pay for the transaction.”
I felt sick.
“Using my company’s money.”
She nodded.
“Malcolm told us we’d all receive a share after the sale.”
