They exchanged a few words.
She shook her head.
Then hurried to her car.
Daniel waited until she drove away before pressing the intercom.
“Gloria?”
His voice was calm.
Familiar.
The same voice that had reassured me after Trevor’s assault.
The same man who had told me to secure my records.
Who’d helped me sell River Oaks.
Who’d encouraged me to report the fraud.
I stared at him through the camera.
“What are you doing here?”
He smiled.
“Kristen called me. She sounded upset.”
My stomach tightened.
“How did she get your number?”
Daniel hesitated.
“She contacted the office.”
I looked at the clock.
It was almost ten.
My office had closed hours earlier.
I said nothing.
Daniel continued.
“Gloria, I think we should talk.”
I looked toward the security panel.
My phone was in my hand.
I quietly contacted Detective Grant and forwarded the camera footage.
Then I spoke into the intercom.
