Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

“It’s about Trevor.”

For several seconds, I couldn’t speak.

My son.

The child who had struck me.

The child Malcolm had manipulated.

The child Henry loved fiercely despite all his faults.

I stared at the door.

“What about Trevor?”

Daniel was silent.

Then he whispered:

“Henry knew Trevor wasn’t going to inherit Cedarline.”

My stomach tightened.

“Of course he wasn’t. He left the company to me.”

Daniel laughed softly.

“No, Gloria.”

A pause.

“He left it to someone else.”

I stared at the door.

“What?”

Daniel continued:

“Someone you never knew existed.”

My hands shook.

Before I could respond, headlights appeared outside.

A police vehicle.

Then another.

Daniel turned.

For the first time, his expression changed.

He looked frightened.

Two officers approached.

Detective Grant stepped out of the second vehicle.

She spoke to Daniel.

He argued.

Then slowly placed his briefcase on the ground.

I watched through the security camera as investigators began questioning him.
