Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

“Yes.”

The word sat between us.

Not all of it.

Enough.

Then Daniel said:

“There is something else.”

Apparently that phrase had become the anthem of my life.

“What?”

He pulled out the attempted $1.8 million River Oaks loan.

“Trevor signed a personal guaranty.”

I frowned.

“So?”

“Kristen didn’t.”

I looked at him.

Daniel continued.

“On the property-transfer documents, Trevor assumes almost all liability.”

“Kristen receives management authority through a separate entity.”

My stomach tightened.

“Which means?”

“If this worked, your son would have carried much of the debt.”

“And Kristen?”

“Would have controlled much of the transferred equity.”

I sat completely still.

Trevor thought he and his wife were stealing my company together.

The documents suggested Kristen had built the structure so that after the theft, she could take it from him too.

I almost felt sorry for him.

Almost.

Then I touched my bruised cheek.

No.

Being deceived by your wife does not make striking your mother thirty times understandable.
