Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

My stomach tightened.

“Who?”

She hesitated.

“Malcolm.”

I stared at her.

“He said the company needed temporary access to a new settlement account for an acquisition.”

“What acquisition?”

Patricia shook her head.

“There wasn’t one listed in our approved pipeline.”

Daniel leaned forward.

“Did Malcolm provide board authorization?”

“Yes.”

She slid another document across the table.

At the bottom was my signature.

Except I hadn’t signed it.

I looked at Patricia.

“Did you believe this was mine?”

Her eyes filled.

“I questioned it.”

“Then why didn’t you call me?”

She swallowed.

“Malcolm told me you were recovering from a medical episode.”

I went still.

“What medical episode?”

“He said you were having trouble remembering recent conversations.”

My hands began shaking.

Trevor had struck me.

Malcolm had stolen company funds.

And someone was preparing to describe me as mentally incapable.

I looked toward Daniel.

“Find out whether they’ve filed anything concerning my capacity.”
