“Leave.”
“Sloan—” Flynn began.
“Take your mother and leave.”
Cordelia laughed.
“No.”
She looked at my necklace.
Then suddenly she reached for it.
I stepped backward.
“What are you doing?”
“Give me the pendant.”
“What?”
“I know what it is.”
My pulse jumped.
“What do you think it is?”
“A key.”
I froze.
Cordelia saw it.
So did Flynn.
His eyes sharpened.
“The back plate,” Cordelia said.
“Everett had documents made with coded seals.
That emerald mount carries one of them.”
I genuinely didn’t know what she was talking about.
“You’re insane.”
Cordelia grabbed the chain.
I caught her wrist.
“Let go.”
“Give it to me.”
“No.”
She pulled harder.
The chain bit into my neck.
Flynn moved toward us.
For one desperate second, I thought he would stop her.
Instead, he grabbed my arm.
“Just give it to her.”
I stared at him.
That hesitation was enough.
