My Husband Threw Me Out While I Was in Labor, Then Came to the Hospital With His New Woman He Didn’t Know I’d Just Inherited $20 Million or What Investigators Were About to Find

The ring was not the plan.

Humiliating me in the hospital was simply Daniel celebrating too early.

And that was his mistake.

Part Seven — The Most Expensive Morning of His Life
Daniel called twelve times after Lauren agreed to cooperate with investigators.

I answered the thirteenth.

“Rebecca.”

His voice sounded relieved.

“Thank God.”

“What do you want?”

“We need to stop this before it gets out of control.”

“It already is.”

“Lauren is panicking.”

“No. Lauren is talking.”

Silence.

Then:

“What did she tell you?”

That question told me everything.

Not:

Is she okay?

Not:

How’s Clara?

Not:

Can I see my daughter?

What did Lauren tell you?

I said:

“Enough.”

Daniel’s voice hardened.

“You don’t understand what you’re doing.”

“I understand perfectly.”

“You could destroy my company.”

“No.”

I looked at Clara sleeping beside me.

“You did that.”

“Rebecca, listen to me. Everything I did was for us.”
