Part 2: My husband and our three sons d!ed during a storm on their guys’ trip — five years later, my youngest daughter came to me and said, “Mom, I know what really happened that day. The police officer lied to you.”

My hands began trembling.

Another message arrived.

**RACHEL, YOU HAVE SOMETHING THAT BELONGS TO ME.**

I stared at the screen.

Then a second photograph appeared.

Michael.

Standing beside a dark van.

His expression was cold.

Beneath it were six words.

**THE EVIDENCE WAS NEVER YOURS TO KEEP.**

My heart pounded.

I immediately forwarded the messages to Detective Ellis.

Then another message appeared.

A video.

I pressed PLAY.

At first, the screen showed only darkness.

Then a light switched on.

A man sat in a chair inside a small room.

His hands were bound.

His head hung forward.

He wore a faded gray shirt.

For several seconds, I couldn’t understand what I was seeing.

Then he slowly lifted his head.

I stopped breathing.

His hair was almost completely gray now.

His face was thinner.

There was a scar across his forehead.

But I recognized him immediately.

Ben.

My husband.

Alive.

Tears burst from my eyes.
