“Ben?”
He looked directly into the camera.
His lips trembled.
“Rachel.”
I nearly dropped the phone.
His voice was weak.
But it was his.
My Ben.
After five years.
After all the nights I spent crying into his pillow.
After all the birthdays and anniversaries without him.
He was alive.
He began crying.
“I’m sorry.”
I covered my mouth.
Then the camera moved.
Caleb stepped into view.
My oldest son.
He was taller than Ben now.
He stood beside his father.
His face was pale.
His eyes were filled with fear.
“Mom,” he whispered.
My entire body shook.
“Caleb.”
He looked toward someone outside the frame.
Then back at the camera.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t get home.”
I began sobbing.
“Baby, we’re coming.”
But Caleb shook his head.
“No, Mom.”
His voice broke.
“Don’t come here.”
Then a familiar voice spoke from behind the camera.
“That’s enough.”
Michael.
He stepped into view.
