I stared at the wall.
For several seconds, I couldn’t speak.
Then he whispered:
“Daniel said if we could convince the board that you were losing your memory, nobody would question it when the other woman started appearing at meetings.”
My hands went numb.
Another woman.
Someone who resembled me.
Someone who might sign documents using my name.
Someone who could move through the company while the real Gloria Sutter was dismissed as confused.
I thought about the forged signatures.
The missing money.
The medical assessment.
The photographs Daniel had arranged.
Then I remembered something Patricia told me.
The bank had processed one transfer after confirming the identity of a woman who appeared in person.
At the time, I assumed someone had used false identification.
Now I wondered whether the bank had seen a woman who actually looked like me.
I gripped the phone.
“Trevor, did you meet her?”
A long silence followed.
